mal was von mir: - Welche Klasse bist du denn?
The short story "The Factory" by Mary Dilworth is about two people that work in a factory. The both characters have a completly different attitude towards the work at the factory. The female I-narrator explains that she hates her work, whereas Eric who is certainly the husband of the I-narrator likes his work. Eric is described as a very conservative man who has a very regular routine of the day. He gets up early every morning, reads the business section of the newspaper, gives her wife a call from the factory when he would like to have lunch and at 6 o'clock he has dinner. Every day the same procedure.
Some years before, Eric was making shoes, when he met his wife. Now he works in an office and wears a suit every day. Obviously his job at the factory is the most important thing in his life. Because of his daily routine, the reader gets the impression that there is tension between him and his wife. They don't seem to talk often. He is indifferent to her needs. That seems to be the reason why she started hating the factory.
But at one night, the factory is on fire. The reader does not know whether the I-narrator is responsible for the fire, but it gets clear that the I-narrator feels happy and exhilarated. It propably will change the relationship towards her husband.
