TECHNIQUE
All the basic positions require the dancers to "turn out" their legs and feet. This takes years of training and practice.
Every ballet lesson starts with some exercises at the bar. The bar is like a wooden pole. It is fastened horizontally to the wall. The dancers use the bar in many ways. They place one leg upon the bar, by hooking their heel over it. Then, they can do stretching exercises. Sometimes, they stand with their side toward the bar, and hold the bar with one hand. This helps them to balance as they do "plies," which are kind of like deep knee bends. Plies (plee-ays) are done with the back held straight.
CLOTHING
The ballet dancers you see on television, movies or at the ballet are usually professionals. The lady dancers, or "ballerinas," dance on their toes. This is called dancing "en pointe." A dancer is usually at least 12 years old before she begins to dance en pointe. She then wears "toe shoes," which are stiff-toed slippers with ribbons that tie around the feet and ankles. Most of the time you wear foam pads into your shoes to protect your toes from bruisings and stuff like that.
For performances, the ballerinas wear "tutus," which are short, full skirts, often made of netting or satin material. Sometimes, they wear a slightly longer skirt, which flows gracefully as the ballerinas dance.
Ballerinas traditionally wear their hair in a bun, pinned high on the head.
Male dancers, simply called "ballet dancers," always dance in soft-soled shoes. They do not dance en pointe. The men must be in good shape to be able to lift the ballerinas into the air.
CLASS
I spent 4.5 to 5 hours in ballet class every week. In class I basically work on my technique. I love everything there, I love the people my teacher, I love our repetoire and I love our acting. Acting is insanely important. The hardest balletstap that I am working on right now are foueté turns. It is really hard to keep your balance and spot so you don’t get dizzy.
PRESSURE
There is pressure, even at the studio, when you see someone is better than you, you don’t look at it as a jelousy thing.
You see them do it and it’s like wow I really would like to be able to do that, that is one of the main things.
MAGICAL
There is nothing like a classical line, the way that girls look like when they are flooding on air. What in today’s sociyty you don’t have something that is that magical. It is really cool to do something manifested by man that is like magic, like fairytale stuff. It is just unreal.
And with all the reality tv and everything.. I think this is the most pure and innocent, honest beauty that we have. I love it.
CONTEMPORARY BALLET
Contemporary ballet is also really fun. It pushes the limits into a whole other way. It is something that is a little bit more daring or like stronger fearser. The lines are more daring vs delicate and sweet. And I think it takes it to new groundries. It takes them to further extremes that you can’t quite do with classical ballet.
FAVOURITE DANCER
I really like maria kochetkova she is one of my favorite dancers and what she said was so inspiring. For excample what maria kochakovi said about it not being a modeling buizniss. You don’t have to be a certain bodytype. You don’t have to be perfect. She is very short she is 5 but most of people don’t know about it when she is dancing on stage but some people don’t recognize her when they see her close when she is off stage.
She said it doesn’t matter how tall you are or whatever, everyone can dance it is all about how you express youself and how smart you use what you have. Nothing else is important.
She didn’t become a principle dancer in one day, it took her a long time to get whe she is now.
There were a lot of talented dancers in her class that were more talented then she was but they didn’t make it. It is not only about a talent it is also about how much you want it and how smart you work. The way you accept all the difficulties that come on your way because there are many. But they are there to make you stronger not to push you away from what you love.
INSPIRATION
I also love wathcing dancing video’s on youtube. You know you can safe stuff in a little folder one is titled inspiration or like what I want to be when I'll get older. I have lots of dancing video’s in there actually.
