Today I want to tell you something about 'Walt Disney'. I think most of you watched a movie of Disney. But first of all, who was 'Walt Disney'? Walter Elias Disney was the inventor of the company. He was born in 1901 and he grew up on a farm with his parents and his 5 siblings in Missouri. Every child had to help on the farm but Walt Disney was already then interested in drawing and with 14 years he took for the first time art classes. After the First World War he drew promotional films (1) and he mixed actors with animated cartoons.
After his success Walt Disney went to Los Angeles. He didn’t draw anymore. His friend Ub Iwerks was the Art Director from this moment and did you know that Ub Iwerks invented MICKY MOUSE? I didn’t. But the Honorary Award for inventing of Micky Mouse was lent to Disney; I think that’s very unfair.
The next plan of Walt Disney was that the pictures get sound and music effects. So he presented in November 1928 in New York Steamboat Willies premiere and Minnie Mouse had her first performance.
More fantastic characters of Disney are Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Daisy Duck and the three little Pigs.
The huge classics of Disney movies are Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo and Bambi. 1964 the most-successful Disney-Movie resulted – Marry Poppins. It was honored with 5 Oscars.
Now I told you something about Walt Disney, his animated cartoons and his movie successes but one thing I left to say. He also opened a special park, yes, the DISNEYLAND RESORT.
In 1955 stood the first theme park of Disney near to Los Angeles and 9 years later he wanted to have a second Disneyland built in Orlando, Florida. Now the resorts are all over the world.
Some interesting facts of Disney are:
- his favourite movie was 'Bambi'
- he was dyslexic (2)
- he was chain smoker (3) but he did never smoke in public or in the attendance (4) of children
- his smoker's cough (5) announced (6) when he was coming
- the reason why he died was a lung cancer (7)
- the last movie where he contributed was ‘The Jungle Book’
- he didn’t like 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Peter Pan' because the character hadn’t enough warm-heartedness
- he received altogether 800 awards and he became the most decorated human since the beginning of the humanity.
The point of my speech is that the productions of Disney haven’t any age limit and your’re never too old for a good animated movie.
