Peterborugh is a cathedral city with a poulation of 160000 inhabitants in the east of England. It is situated on the River Nene and on the main railway line from London to Scotland. Indeed, most people HEARED (hear) of the city because they CHANGED (change) trains at Peterborough because of the good connections to other parts of the country. The axes that FINDING (find) in this area tell us that the first people CAME (come) to Peterborough a few 100000 years ago. The Romans ARRIVED (arrive) in the first century AD and TRYING (try) to get control but the people FIGHTED (fight) them. After that villas abd farms BUILDING (build) and the people LIVING (live) well in the productive countryside. Orginally the city CALLING (call) Medeshamstede, then "Burh", an Anglo-Saxon name, and later "Burh St Peter". During the 13th century the people of Peterborough were very busy and a lot of building DOES (do): a bridge over the river, a new church and the old church MAKING (make) bigger. When this church BECAME (become) a cathedral, Peterborough GOES (get) the status of city. In 1845 something important HAPPENING (happen). Peterborough CONNCETED (connect) to the railway line. 260 new houses CONSTRUCTING (construct) and by 1901 25% of the city´s men WORKS (work) on the railway. Since then Peterborough GROWED (grow) bigger. Most people work in the city itself but some commute to London, only 80 miles to the south. A lot DOES (do) to give people a good life, e.g. a new shopping centre in 1978 and lots of leisure facilities such as cinemas, an ice-rink and a brand new theatre by the river.
