Ich gehe in die 9. klasse und muss bald ein (Kurz-)Referat in Englisch über Venedig halten... würde mich über Verbesserungsvorschläge sehr freuen
Most people go on holiday every year. Some only want to relax while others try to escape from the daily routine. My family and I also take a vacation annually. My favorite travel destination is Italy. Cavallino, a town in the province of venice, with its numerous holiday complexes is my preferred resort, because it has (got?) a good position to make trips for example to venice. I’m very excited about Venice. I visited the city for the first time in 2008 and of course during our graduation trip this year. Venice is one of the most interesting and lovely places in Italy. Special about this place is that Venice is built on trunks of trees on the sea and it is a city wiht many attractions. The city consists of 118 islands connected by more than 400 bridges.
The main bridge and most famous bridge is the Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto). It is over 400 years old. If you stand on it you can see the Grand Canal. It is like the main street. Venice has been known as the “City of Water” and as the “City of Canals and Bridges”. It is a city with traffic-free streets. If you want to get around there are many possibilities e.g. by water buses called vaporettis or water taxis. However to use a vaporetto is cheaper than a water taxi. The most popular and classical Venetian vehicels are gondolas. Mostly they are used for tourists or on special occasions e.g. for weddings. When I visited Venice for the first time I saw a married couple in a gondola, who did a romantic ride along the canals. But a gondola is very expensive and Venice is easily walkable.
The main square of Venice is called Piazza San Marco/Saint Mark’s Square and it is the most visited place. Here you will find the most important sights of Venice: the Doge’s Palace (next to the palace you’ll find the „Bridge of Sighs“_it was connected with the prison), the beautiful church Saint Mark’s Basilica and the Campanile. The Campanile is built on 12000 trunks. On top you will see the whole city. The lively square is suroounded by cafes and shops. But if you want to drink something you will pay a lot. St. Mark’s Square is also known for its countless pigeons.
Venice has also been konwn as the „City of Masks“, because the Venetian Carnival is one of the highlights in the city. In the narrow streets of Venice you can buy these coloured masks nearly in every shop. Shopping in Venice is fantastic. There are many interesting shops. But it is very expensive and heavily touristed. Every year over 16 million tourists are visiting the city. But its original romantic charme is still alive.
Not only in the city you will find attractions. The Murano is an island in the Lagoon. Here you can buy the famous Murano glass souvenirs. In 2008 I bought a Murano glass chain in Venice.
Venice is also a city with many problems, because it is sinking slowly. The rising water level and floodings are a serious danger. Mostly in autumn the Piazza San Marco becomes flooded with water.
Even so the city is one of the world’s greatest cities and I am fascinated by it
