    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/10/opi…ef=opinion&_r=1

und dazu fünf Fragen beantworten. Könnte bitte jemand Korrektur Lesen, ich bin nämlich leider nicht so gut in Englisch. :(

    Dankeschön!!!
    Liebe Grüße Tom

    1. What is it about?

The article “Why Pilots Still Matter” from Patrick Smith is about the failures and future of piloted aviation. Patrick Smith who is a pilot and the author of the book “Cockpit confidential: Everything you need to know about air travel” says his opinion whether there is a way to a pilotless future or not.
It`s now two weeks since the crash of Germanwings flight 9525 and many people discuss about the future of piloted aviation. The author Patrick Smith tell something about his experience as a pilot and he describes why a pilot is still important, even if the airplanes are super-automated machines.

    2. What is the author’s opinion?

The author Patrick Smith says that everything the airplane does is commanded by the crew. The automation only does what the pilots tell it to do. And especially the landings and takeoffs are performed manually.
For Patrick Smith it`s the wrong way to think about a pilotless future, because all this discussions are based on a false premise. Story’s that pilots on a typical flight spend as little as seven minutes manually piloting their planes are misleading for him.
He says that all the pilotless autopilot systems exist only in the experimental stages and with only a handful of successful test flights it`s too unsafe to think about the viability of a system.
In the end he speaks about the cost for the change to a pilotless future. It would need a full redesign of our aviation infrastructure. These costs would be too high for him, especially because pilots would be still needed from a remote location.

    3. What kind of "persuasive language" did the author use?

He use an experiential Language. He talks and explains his past and present experiences as a pilot and based on this knowledge he describes how it might be in the future.

    4. Were you persuaded to believe the author’s viewpoint? Why or why not?

No, the author doesn`t persuaded me from his viewpoint. In my opining many thinks he is saying are totally exaggerated and just because he want to save his job. I don’t believe that everything he is saying about the job as a pilot and how difficult it is are true.
I think he is too biased to this topic and because of this he is not credible. Nearly everybody wants to convince the people how important his job is just to be sitting pretty.

    5. Regardless of the author’s opinion, what is your opinion on this issue?

I think it`s still important to have pilots in the airplane. But not because it`s not possible to fly without a pilot, just because even the best techniques have weak spots. Without a pilot in the plane, the lives of too many passengers are in the hand of technique.
