BOOK PRESENTATION
I have here Abandoned by Cody McFadyen. I will speak about the biography of the writer and why, I have decided me for this book. Then, I will talk about the content of Abandoned. After them, I will read loudly a text passage from the book.
Cody Walton McFadyen is an American writer of crime novels. He was born in Texas in 1968 and grew up in very modest circumstances. With 16 he broken off the high school and worked as a volunteer for a support group. Later, He worked as a web designer. After his drugs experience, he married and focused on the education of his stepdaughter. Only when he was 30 years old, began to writing. In 2005 he published his first book "Shadow Man". The thriller was in Germany on the bestseller list for weeks. It followed "The Face of Death", "The Darker Side" and "Abandoned". In all of these novels, Smoky Barrett is the protagonist.
I have chosen this book, because it was recommended to me by many people. In addition, I like thrillers and crime novels generally. For me, the story sounded also well. The fact that the offender performs a lobotomy on his victims, it reminded me of the mystery series "Fringe", which was formerly often see on Pro7. A lobotomy is an invasion in the brain. It usually has serious consequences.
The story is about the protagonist Smoky Barrett. She works for the FBI in LA, and often has to do with serial killers. In the other books, it happened that these murderers have gone to her friends and family members. For example, her husband Matt and her daughter Alexa was killed by Joseph Sands. Sands forced to cut Smoky her own face with a rusty knife and lives since then with this scar. Another psychopath killed a friend of Smoky. Her daughter Bonnie was adopted then by her. Later they also found a new man named Tommy. She married him and he became a father figure to Bonnie.
Her team remained the same in all the books. It consists of James, Alan and Callie. Callie is a tall, skinny, red-haired woman who is known for her irreverence, but she enriches the team with their skills. Alan is an older, big African American man with a lot of experience. He has an endless patience and he reads the body language of other like an open book. He is the best if it comes to interviews. James is a misanthropist. He always urges to work if they stray from the topic. In addition, he has a razor-sharp mind and has like Smoky the ability to empathize with the thinking of a murderer.
The case, which the team employs in this book, begins at the wedding of Callie. During the wedding, a black Mustang races into the parking lot. The door opens and a pale, shaven-headed woman is tossed out onto asphalt. The door slams shut and the car speeds off. When they have brought the woman to the hospital, you could see that she is traumatized. She doesn't react if you speak to her. Smoky Barrett and her team have found out that her name is Heather Hollister and was abducted for 7 years. More victims appear, but at these were performed out a lobotomy. They are now only lifeless shells which are cursed to vegetate the rest of her life in front of him. The offender is very difficult to find, as he leaves hardly evidence. His fingerprints cannot to find in any register. Only when the ex-husband of Heather is faced again to be the culprit, the team is progressing.
The narration of the story is mostly from the perspective of the protagonist, but in 3 chapters of the book, the story is about a boy. He hears the very questionable teachings of his father and implements them. This is probably the childhood of the offender.
I would like to read the text passage in which the second victim of the murderer was found. OR: I would like to read the first lesson of his father.

I think, it is a very good book and I can to recommend it to anyone who likes thrillers. If you have questions, you may like to ask.
